About the Sage

 

Definition: Sage (saj) n. 1.a venerable wise man. 2.an aromatic plant with grayish green leaves used as seasoning and often used for healing by native American cultures.

I developed a passion for food at an early age with both of my parents being excellent cooks. My mother being the expert at home cooking learned from the farm house of her youth and my father being the adventurous gourmet known for his use of bold spices and love of sweets. From their widely divergent styles I learned a unique approach to my own cooking. I have spent much of my life in Colorado where I was born and have been influenced by the southwestern cuisine of that region. I took with me the lessons learned in my parents' kitchen and from the southwestern culture and have continued through out my life to be open to new flavors, ingredients and cuisines.

I worked in management  for the first 20 years of my working life and although I excelled at my job my thoughts were always drifting back to the kitchen. During that entire time I continued to be a passionate cook and avidly sought to learn everything culinary. From my favorite cook books and cooking shows on PBS to the Food Network, I was always learning new recipes and approaches. And, as life often does, it taught me valuable lessons about the role of food and nutrition in our lives. From those lessons I learned the importance of not only our diet, but also the ingredients that go into that diet.

I was always throwing a dinner party for friends and family just to try out a new recipe and to sharpen my skills. And as more and more people encouraged me to pursue my passion I finally gave in and started a new career in food. I worked in just about every capacity from dishwasher to kitchen manager, determined to learn the restaurant business from the ground up. The stress and long hours in the restaurant made me consider new options.

This, fortunately for you, brings me to today and my personal chef services. My focus  is on providing safe and healthy gourmet and home cooked meals at an affordable price while supporting sustainable agriculture, community supported agriculture, local farmers, ranchers and fishermen. I am very concerned with food safety and am ServSafe certified. I have a very simple mission statement, "To share my passion for fresh, quality ingredients and healthy cooking  with as many people as possible."
